Georgetown Professor and alumna receive prestigious NEH award

April 22, 2021

Professor Emily Francomano, Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, and Georgetown PhD Dr. Clara Pascual-Argente, Associate Professor of Spanish at Rhodes College, have been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Scholarly Editions and Translations Grant. The grant will support a project on “The Story of Apollonius of Tyre: An Edition and Translation of Two Medieval Iberian Texts.”  As Professors Pascual-Argente and Francomano articulate, “[a]s the importance of medieval Iberia to the formation of European and Mediterranean cultures becomes increasingly recognized, these versions remain particularly relevant to our understanding of medieval vernacular reception and transformation of ancient culture.”
